Time for me to rate these kdrama pills because I’ve noticed they are making tons for me recently I might not be able to catch up, and I don’t want to forget how they made me feel while I was sitting-and sometimes sleeping with them, savoring every bit of it.

I  have a separate page for my favorite kdrama series recaps.  ^_^

I have rated it A(for Amazing), B+(for Breathtaking), B(for Beautiful), C+(for Cliche but Charming), C(for Crazy but Tolerable) D(for Disappointing), F(for Forget it).   I added additional tips for your reference.  My recent entries would be on a yearly basis from now on so the most recent dramas would be on the first entries.

♥ Something About One Percent (2016) – Something About 1% is a surprise hit for me this year.  I was prepared to drop it after 4 episodes, but boy I fell in love with the kiss scenes, lol I mean the story.  *wink  As Lee Jae In sedated my grieving heart from Scarlet Heart Ryeo, it pushed me back to meaningful existence with his sweet smile and steamy gazes.  This amazingly done rom-com darted cheesy and predictable.  Even now I still wonder how I got so addicted with everything so unadorned about it.

♥ Drinking Solo (2016) – What drew me to watching “Drinking Solo” was the simple storytelling, setting and character building.  It was a plain picture of the struggles of students taking lessons to pass the civil service exam and the battles of the instructors in surviving the present day adult life complications versus those idealistic dreams they had when they were young.  The love concerns inserted were additional bonus in amusing myself in watching the cast move on with their fictional life.

♥ Shopping King Louie (2016) – While everything in kdramaland was serious in polishing the story and rendering remarkable character portrayals, “Shopping King Louis” came along like a comfort food frocking in all positivity it can have.  Though having a simple premise, Bok Sil and Louis were entertaining me with their sweet and hilarious chemistry.  The light and upbeat pace matches the optimism of the main leads.

♥ On the Way to the Airport (2016) – We normally get those kind of third-party love affair stories, and we never achieve a proper explanation on the reason why people involve themselves in an illicit affair. “On the way to the Airport” touches this sensitive marital issue in a classy way that will make you cheer and understand why a man and a woman got caught in an entanglement behind their husband and wife’s back. What the story brought about is how marriage can be broken even with the most rational mind when a person finds a willing heart who can share his pain.
I like how subtle the approach is in tackling adultery in the narrative maybe because the writer sketched valid presentation of those phases that make a person lose the love he felt with his lover along the way.

♥ Love in the Moonlight aka Moonlight Drawn by the Clouds (2016) – Eventhough Lee Young and Hong Ra On will not be hitting the pinnacle of my best dramas this year, the full drama package was commendable due to its poignant sketching of the main characters and the writer’s impeccable timing to pin me on my spot and not sway away from following the story in those moments when I almost did.  Drawn on a historical premise, “Moonlight Drawn by the Clouds” is a sweet drama treat brimming with giddy-ish scenes that will make you reminisce that once special love when you were young.

♥ Moonlovers:  Scarlet Heart Ryeo (2016) –  Albeit the tormenting emotional strain I got with Scarlet Heart Ryeo, it will belong on my favorites for this year because I love that it became even more believable and fervent due to the plot’s instability and the main characters indecisiveness.  It was a situation that might have killed the drama, but because the essential character motivations were clearly drawn, as a viewer I enjoyed that feeble  and vulnerable facet of the production.  Even with the unfazed heartrending tone all throughout, I take Scarlet Heart Ryeo with all my heart because I believe that a happy ending does not measure how great a love can be.

The series aftermath pained and haunted me.  4th Prince So, I’m here for you now, tomorrow and everyday in between.

♥ Fantastic (2016) – Even with the dying premise, I have grown to love “Fantastic” because of the dexterous cast and how they blend together supporting each other’s friendship and stories.  Fantastic is an optimistic story that not only encourages through its love theme, but also with how the main characters were able to leave really cool life lessons as they tackled the roles they played in the narrative.

♥ Jealousy Incarnate (2016) – Sure, there were a lot going on in “Jealousy Incarnate” that sometimes the sporadic mini plots did not equate well to its overall make, but the eager and vibrant cast made up to that missing push the story failed to achieve.  Honestly the safe ever-after ending failed to complement those strong moments of the lead cast along with the story conflict they had to face together hilariously and painfully.  Nevertheless, I did enjoy the sweet ride and the endearing couple who tackled the friendship defying love chase.

♥ W: Two Worlds (2016) – Less the staggering twists and turns that were ever present in the narrative, I still like how “W:TwoWorlds” was so ambitious on how it vividly displayed and chronicled a love story that defied alternate universe.  It maneuvered to constant deviation and possibilities having the premise of “everything is possible to happen as long as they can draw it”.  I love smart characters playing in the story so I have to give it to Yeon Joo on how she perceives efficiently in moments when Kang Chul is hindered by the limitations of his heroic role which was dependent on his fictional character.  All throughout its showing, I was immersed on the extent of chimeric world the story would thread to, even when it hit a frustrating circle, but then it bounced back to a neatly delineated denouement although I would have wanted for another hour of extension.

♥ Age of Youth (2016) – Tailored to show the common faces of women, this honest drama has a melancholic resonance as it progressed to strengthening the bond of the 5 women living together in a dormitory who all have baggages from their past that haunt them in their present lives.  “Age of Youth” is a retrospective youth drama about women in their 20’s. The five ladies promenaded their love inhibitions, self-esteem issues, school worries, what happens after school disappointments and all the rest of typical predicaments, 20’s women usually worry about.

♥ Uncontrollably Fond (2016) – The thing about Uncontrollably Fond is that it tapped into those memories of lost and depressing love that people don’t want to look back anymore in their lives.  It was not a happy-ever-after kind of romance that appeals typically to almost anyone, instead it delved to the most shameful, most regretful and most painful things anyone can do because of love.  Uncontrollably Fond won’t appeal to those who craved light and sweet type of romantic stories you can indulge to this narrative but be aware that you will be put on tormenting spot most of the time.  Though deemed to have been badly written, there was a thread that held the loyal viewers and that’s the dying scenario of the lead man.  I stayed until the end because I believe that not all love stories are wrapped in kisses and sweet memories.  There are those that are melancholic and yet lives on as someone’s one great love.

♥ Doctors (2016) – I credit the starpower of the cast for raking in high ratings.  Even though the story did not deserve it at the very least.  When the surgeries took over the story, it was a feeling of journeying to Mt. Mordor to destroy the one ring of them all for me.  I was tired needing an elixir of life that would push me to understand if I was watching a drama or I’m learning to become a doctor through a confused medical documentary.  The writing was so bad it did not even complement the character sketches when they could have expanded it more given the complexity of the main roles drawn.  A little believable sprinkle of love complications would have broken the languid development of the story, but they throw in a lovable second male lead who settled to the proverbial fate of second lead syndrome.

♥ Oh Hae Young Again (2016) – Another Oh Hae Young took me by surprise because I was not hooked on its opening episodes.  I gave it another chance because I know how great Eric Moon was in his previous roles and I’m happy I didn’t give up easily.  The love progression was realistic and at the same time surreal.  It tapped on those moments when we were all left hanging and indecisive to admit that we were in love.

Romance Meter:  Messy, heartfelt and blissfully sweet

GENRE:  Romance, Melodrama, Comedy     GRADE:  A

♥ Task Force 38 (2016) – Task Force 38 is straight to the point with the premise, the conflict, and how the people moving in the story resolved and closed it.  It helped that even with the serious topic, the protagonists were drawn as suave robinhood and upright citizen who only wanted to make sure that no one is above the law in paying taxes.  True it made use of an illegal approach to defeat the baddies by brewing schemes to make them forcedfully pay what they owe which is still technically bad, but it fairly explained the limited options in stopping corruption when the people responsible for it are puppets of organized crime group.  Life really has inconvenient realities that can’t be dealt with by justice.  So as long as you get to the resolution even if the means defy law as long as there are no life threatened, then just settle with it.

♥ Beautiful Gong Shim (2016) – A typical neighborhood love that bloomed from pure trust and understanding between unexpected friends and their journey to acknowledge that they were built so perfectly for each other because it is their destiny to fall in love eventually. Crossing the line between friends and romance requires a courageous stance that you know what you are doing and you are prepared to take a leap of faith. Love is not romance until it is reciprocated. The impeccable sassy and cheesy chemistry of Dan Tae and Gong Shim has had me on laughing fits most of the time.  Their comic characters were drawn so well and so compatible to each other that they compensated to the predictable plot of the series.  KDramas are known for the weird-looking kisses but the delightful love couple made sure to redefine the awkward kiss scenes and made me giggle a lot with the enchanting build up of their love story.

Interesting Note:  For some odd reason it will endear you with its simplicity

GENRE:  Romantic Comedy     GRADE:  C+

♥  Lucky Romance (2016) – The yin-yang love battle between the science oriented lead man and the superstitious heroine started cute, stayed sweet and hilarious but pushed its luck too far in securing a safe ending.  That being said, I won’t whine but I won’t give high praises for it.  Lucky romance is like your summer fling, it was good while it lasted, but then eventually when it ended, there was no lingering feeling.

Sad Note:  It has a lot of promise but…

GENRE:  Romantic Comedy     GRADE:  C

♥ One More Happy Ending (2016) – Cooked and prepared like your average romcom, One More Happy Ending was a delightful watch.  I would like also to applaud the strong side stories of the supporting characters which were equally vibrant as the main love story.  The plot delved on the varying emotions of women struggling to keep up with love and relationship.  The marriage camp and relationship board sticker ideas were also some of the cutesies I will remember about this refreshing romcom.  This most likely will appeal to singles in 30’s who have failed their marriage once… who are finding the love lost along the way in their current marriage… who are unsure of finally settling down and who have been waiting for the right person to come along.

GENRE:  Rom-com, Friendship     GRADE:  C+

♥ Come Back Ajussi (2016) – parking lot

♥ Entertainer (2016) – Sadly, in my melancholic attempt to look back on “Entertainer”, there’s nothing much that I remember about it, no matter how much heart Ji Sung oppa gave to the drama.  The story as a whole was not something that I would reminisce in the future.   Sure there were a little highlighted moments especially those musical performances but they were overshadowed by the lack of the vibrancy of the storytelling.   So I’ll be making this a very quick review.  Skip it when you have a pile of kdrama on queue to watch.  Even if you will watch it for Ji Sung oppa, there’s nothing much oppa-happiness-pill that you would get anyway, so settle with other dramas that would make the most out of your time.  I watched it because I was counting on Ji Sung oppa’s choice given that I liked most of the dramas he did, but there’s really nothing much going on.

♥ Flower in Prison (2016) – Bracing myself with a lengthy period drama run, what hooked my loyalty to weekender “Flower in Prison” was its balanced execution of political struggle, neat narrative, infuriating villains and optimistic underdogs. I journeyed with the heroine Ok Nyeo in exploring the situation of state prison, merchant organization as well as the early days of defending crime convicted victims who can’t fend for themselves circa Joseon era.

Disclaimer:  It had a pretty much brilliant run, but a little frustrating in the end

GENRE:  Period, Drama     GRADE:  B

♥ Five Children (2016) – Second serving of love has never been this lively until these adorable families connected through marriages and made their family even bigger, wackier and happier.  “Five Children” was the first family weekend drama I finished and it was a feat I’m so proud of because it was 54 episodes.

Interesting Note:  The secondary romance were better than the main one

GENRE:  Family, Romance     GRADE:  B

♥ Jackpot (2016) – Jackpot managed to nail the fundamental elements of a historical drama.  It has a thrilling plot with Joseon gambling scene on the side, birth secret and family issues, conspiracy woven conflicts and the strong showdowns of the villain and the hero. Though it may not be perfect, it presented a solid story that didn’t go astray but focused on the main character’ discovery of the lessons they have to learn on their own journeys.

♥ Cheese in the Trap (2016) – I don’t know how to start my thoughts about this drama but I will try.  It felt like that sweetest romance you had which turned a nightmare overnight.  I want to blame the writer and PD for sleepwalking somewhere, but out of the initial cutesies  and romance, I will try  to be forgiving.  It was still not as bad as “Big” drama but it was a case of a company not being able to put up with its employees’ rallies settled amicably to giving some chocolates, going to the moon and just disappearing to the unknown.  Haha

♥ Because It’s the First Time (2015 ) – Everything about this drama screams about the kind of friendship, worries and love confusions we had in our early 20’s.  The story was narrated unadorned but the characters were limned delightfully.

♥ Who Are You? (2015) – This youth drama following the success of the “School” series covered problematic society issues involving youth nowadays like bullying, self-esteem issues and family problems.  All I can remember in this drama are the boys but I did not become sentimental like what “Because it’s the first time” gave me.

Why you should watch it?  Two pretty high school boys will suffice the empty plot

♥ Bubblegum (2015) I think out of all friendship-turned-romance dramas this year, Ri Hwan and Haeng Ah’s story in Bubblegum is perfect for 30-ish working people who struggled and are struggling to keep up on the sad truth that dealing with a broken heart and learning to accept a new love have different approaches as you age along.   It was such an enamoring narrative that drew strength from the free spirited and natural on screen connection of the lead couple.

♥ She Was Pretty (2015) – I would consider two themes evident for this year in kdramaland… friendship-turned-romance and redeeming-a-woman’s-old-glow.   These two were present in the recently concluded love tale of childhood friends turned sweethearts who lost contact for a long while and met again at different expectations and fears more than 20 years after.

♥ Punch (2015) – Awed and at the edge of my seat every episode’s finishing kick, I can’t help but wondered how brilliant the writer of this story by bringing out a drama where heroes and villains don’t waste time outmanipulating each other to secure the highest possible position befitting to their greed and wickedness.  With a dying man as a lead hero in charge to intellectually brawl with his superiors in the Prosecutor’s office, the stake was always at the highest as the people involved raced to protect their families, reputations and personal ambitions.

♥ Sassy Go Go (2015) –  Your typical youth drama set in school with eye candy lead man, vivacious lead girl and plain premise about group of students that were joined together to form a cheerleading team.  I honestly endured it because of the lead guy because he made me transport back to my high school girl self.  But there’s nothing much that happened aside from the childish bickerings and some school controversies and issues faintly covered to promote social awareness.

♥ Oh My Ghostess (2015) Bright, Cheerful and Feel Good have always been the after effect of an episode dose of Oh My Ghostess for me. Supernatural plot is a make or break deal in kdramas. It needs to be flaunting when the plot needs it, and it needs to see reasons when you over expose it.  It was the most consistent romantic-comedy for me this year, yes even with the slight tragic plot. The chemistry of the love couple was impeccable that all the followers of this drama would agree how Bong Sun and Sun Woo made our heart fluttered with their bipolar-disorder-misguided-romance.

♥ Mask (2015) – For once I got to see a melodrama with a rich family cast not going all war with excessive evil plots to claim the rein of a company, but doing it within the members as what I perceived the rich and famous should have done in reality.  “Mask” having dysfunctional characters will entice you by how much it deconstructed the main leads’ motivations, frailties and hair-pulling moments on what they are willing to give because of greed, vengeance and sacrificial love.
Swerving from the musty weep fest trademark of melodrama, “Mask” raised its fight club banner through lies, devious plots, and ruthless counter attacks for reasons of being blindly in love and the thirst to achieve a payback.

♥ Kill Me, Heal Me (2015) – The complexity of the multiple personality disorder fused with the fated but hindered romance of the main couple has made me ruminative deducting the precepts of the story premise of this smartly and quirkily written korean drama.  I knew it was all about trauma and I was happy that there was no extreme sacrificial bordering to stupidity acts done by the main leads in avoiding their destined love.

♥ Healer (2014 – 2015) – Healer is one of the best dramas you should include in your list if you haven’t seen it yet.  It has a brilliant premise about a one-of-a-kind hero who chose to disconnect from the society, but accidentally grew attachment to a woman who drew him out of his hibernation.  The drama quaintly linked the furtive relationship of the characters while building up the plot’s climax and romance to perfection.  It is so addictive, stimulating and amusing — and that one drama you can sit on with family, friends and even your lover.  I’m almost two years late to review this drama but I hope you can find time to watch one of the best dramas on my list.

1% of anything (2003)– a love story between a sweet middle school teacher and a hot tempered rich man. Fun, refreshing and one of the reason why Kang Dong Won is in my Korean Prince list.  ^_^

49 Days (2011) – I found the premise intriguing as it involves fantasy intervention… it slowly picked up in my system but having a soft spot for I’m-here-for-you-all-along-why-can’t-you-notice-me kind of love, it won me over.  Neat and prettily written story with twists and gasps.  If truth be told, the final twist was really not good, but I gave in to the fairly done story build up.  ^_^

♥ A Gentlema’s Dignity (2012) – The 20 hours I spent with this drama has made a very jumping on the air happy girl.   The only thing that hindered me from liking Do Jin oppa and eventually erasing Kim Boong-do in my heart is because he looked like a boy I used to date.  *giggles

I have very positive feelings towards this drama.  All those minor so-what-situational-supporting-conflict I just disregarded because the story and the characters have such reverberating resonance that has made me reflect on how I’ve been dealing with my own relationship and commitment issues.  Come to think of it, they made this to make you remember how vulnerable and how defiant you can come after because of love.  This will definitely make it to my top 3 this year.  So I only have one slot left to give.   Come on kdramas indulge me.

♥ Arang and the Magistrate (2012) – It was an incessant shower of disappointing sighs as I groped my way to finish Arang and the Magistrate.  Halfway through the drama, it was still bland and bleak with a plot not coherent to the characters or shall I say, the characters were all good but the story moves in literally a mysterious way, that I ended up mystified and wanting to know why it kept withholding the covert truths indispensable to the movement of the plot.  But then alas! On the 13th episode it became lucky and started showing signs of promise.

Arang and the Magistrate was able to evade an almost drama fury on my end.  It was a safe drama, period.  It goes down to the point of how you manage to end something, no matter how unsure and average the narration of the story was, as long as you give a decent ending that would suffice.  I really applaud the characters… I liked the concept but how they thread on the bridge to get to the other side could have been better if they wove a straight yarn and minimize the holding back of what should have happened.  I was able to predict what will happen eventually, but I stayed with it because the dragging storyline in the first half was compensated by the fast-paced-surprise-after-surprise second half.  Had they made it consistent it would have felt better considering the stellar performance of the cast and the richness manipulation of the folklore from where the story was derived.

GENRE:  Fantasy, Folklore, Romance  GRADE:  B

Story and Screenplay:  The kick start took 6 episodes, the story started midway, the ending was decent for a swaying and swinging fantasy and folklore fusion sageuk

Romance Meter:  It was there but I was not into them

A Love To Kill (2005) – classic directing and editing, decent conflict didn’t make the drama so dragging. Rain at his best.  ^_^

Acting and Cast Chemistry:  heartfelt and strong portrayals for the main leads

Cry-o-Meter:  spent a tissue and a half roll

Romance Meter:  mocking that Houston movie “The Bodyguard”

GENRE:  Drama, Romance  GRADE:  B+

♥ Answer Me 1997 (2012) – The charming screenplay and story have brought out the best of the newbie artists.  The novelty and evasion from the drama rom-com clichés has made a plot a winner.  It was like reading a predictable book… you know what’s going to happen but how they made it happen was sweet, comic, beautiful and realistic.

This is a wistful memoir of that point in time that we first fell in love… and when you finish the story, you might wonder what if you tried to go back.

“The reason why first love is always special is because you kept the memories… because you can never go back”.  Answer Me 1997 will prove this quote otherwise.

GENRE:  Romantic Comedy, Nostalgia  GRADE:  A

Romance Meter:  first love drama at its best

Story and Screenplay:  the nostalgia element was a runaway hit

Cutesies and Humor:  it felt like a happy high school reunion

Acting and Cast Chemistry:  For non-mainstream actors they have rolled smoothly and stunningly

A Thousand Days Promise (2011) – Another dying girl premise, if not for Rae-won oppa I would have not watched it.  It’s everything you expect from a melodrama.  I praise the lead actors for their emotion-deep portrayals.  It quietly crept in me, and it quietly left me too.  Fairly done but not on the top list of what I’ve seen in 2011.

GENRE:  Melodrama, Romance     GRADE:  B

Romance Meter:  Tearfully romantic

Cry-o-meter:  Be ready to cry big time

Air City (2007) – parking lot

All About Eve (2000) – saw this drama like almost 10 years ago so I need to re-watch it, if I’ll get to have a copy someday.  I enjoyed the twisted villain in the story along with it’s drive for realism covering basic human emotions.  Sleek and straightforward.

GENRE:  Melodrama, Romance  GRADE:  C

Romance Meter:  Cunning love, yet it’s still love

Acting and Cast Chemistry Meter:  I liked the lead girl and the lead girl-villain showdown in this series

All In (2003) – watched it because of Song Hye Gyo… exciting, engrossing and brilliantly done but not my drama theme preference.

Story and Screenplay:  The story was there but mot of the time I stepped out to get some sunlight

Acting and Chemistry:  I don’t know but Song Hye Gyo didn’t look good with Byeong-hun oppa.

Attic Cat aka Rooftop Room Cat (2003)  – the drama that introduced me to co-habitation of the lead couples.  It’s simplicity is so sweet and so are the lead couples.  Endearing and love-affirming.

Romantic Meter:  Refreshingly Romantic

Acting and Cast Chemistry:  a perfectly creamed fruit salad

Story and Screenplay:  Laid back and flowing smoothly

GENRE:  Romantic Comedy     GRADE:  B+

Auction House (2007) – bucket list

Autumn Tale (2000) – a very sad moving love story.  If serendipity has a twin evil brother, it was lurking the whole time in the story..  A few sweet moments, and a drama that is anti-ever-after.   The twist and simplicity of the story was very heartwarming.  A heart-tugging storyline and will definitely linger in your heart.

Cry-o-Meter:  Prepare a lot of tissue boxes

Acting and Cast Chemistry:  Mediocre portrayals but very pretty cast

Story and Screenplay:  synonym of sad, anguish and pain

GENRE:  Super Melodrama      GRADE: B

Baby Faced Beauty (2011) – it’s light, refreshing and full of hope and dreams.  The character development will slowly and surely capture you.  A story of a 34-year old woman who has to set aside her dream of being a designer to take the role of the breadwinner in the family.  She was given an opportunity to have her dream but she has to pretend she’s 9 years younger.  It may be slow moving but you will end up loving the story.

Story and Screenplay: surprisingly a feel good reach your dream even if it is too late drama for me

Cast Interaction:  everywhere but nonetheless endearing

Romance Meter:  For a noona romance it was okay but forgettable

GENRE:  Romance, Drama     GRADE:  B+

Bad Love (2007) – parking lot

Beethoven Virus (2009) – great acting, script writing and directing… It will slowly crawl its way to you, and without you realizing it you are deeply immersed in each character’s life.

Acting and Cast Chemistry:  This is where I first met Kim Myung Min.  All characters along with the music they played were in sync

GENRE:  Drama, Music     GRADE: B+

♥ Big (2012) – BIG was half-baked story wise, and you can barely feel its romance because it was not meant to be.  Signature Hong sisters’ humor went in every now and then, but nothing much special like how they used to insert it.  I didn’t like the love story period.  I didn’t like how the characters went to play their part but failed to salvage the drama potentials.  BIG was “not big enough” to have held on my diverted self.  It made me crawl on my way to finish it.  It made me wonder if some evil spirits took over the Hong sisters’ body.  It made me sad that Gong Yoo oppa was all pretty and hot and funny there, but I won’t remember everything about it.

Over-all Meter:  Gong yoo oppa still cute, lead girl forgettable, no story, nothing happened, Hong sisters took some crazy pill while writing

Cast and Storyline:  Blooming actors on their break out roles.  Lots of heart fluttering moments.  Perfect for Kdrama newbies.  Optimum hook factor.

♥ Brain (2011) – in progress

Bridal Mask (2012) – There are a lot of reasons why I would highly recommend this drama but I’ll start with its strength to depict a stimulating story brimming with facets of history and layered with conflicts and resolutions that disheartened and made me happy at the same time.

Cast and Storyline:  Energizing plot movements, sleek and steamy action scenes and the best bromance ever.

GENRE:  Action, Drama, Historical Fiction    GRADE:  A+

♥ Can We Get Married (2012) – “Can We Get Married?” was a very ruminative tale that presented varied reasons, delusions, confusions, pain and happiness when intending to share a life with someone officially.  It sent me to pensive state in justifying my own stand of not believing that love is forever and acknowledging the happy truth that while relationship can be very moody at times, there are things like two-way happiness, warm embraces and sweet kisses that love can only define.

♥ Can’t Lose (2011) – Brimming with bickering, fun and quirky but I felt it was just playing safe and not pulling enough magic to go beyond the limbo.  Overly careful but not boring.

GENRE:  Romantic Comedy     GRADE:  C

♥ Cheongdamdong Alice (2012-13) – It’s sort of refreshing to see the reversal of roles, to have the man as the vulnerable character in the story and the one needed to be saved.  This has been the strength of this love story.  The daddy-and-first-love-issues, the brave but twisted love of the heroine, the circumstances of why the main love was in a tug-of-war setting, the opposing beliefs in romance were detrimental factors in imaginary and real-life ever.  Cheongdamdong Alice was able to hit all those considerations of people who are looking for the kind of love they deserve.  Sometimes love started to be meant to be but has to end because we have to get the love we deserve.  If you are looking for a romance, this drama will show you the love at its purest, vilest and fulfilling appearance.

Swift, straightforward and sweet.  Cheongdamdong Alice will be in my romantic drama favorite list.

Cinderella’s sister (2010) – started strong and then the production crew I don’t know maybe caught something (i’m wishing it’s voodoo doll related), and then it broke my heart.  The angst and the acting are the only thing I remember about it. 6/6/6

GENRE:  Romance, Melodrama     GRADE:  D

City Hall (2009) – I’ve watched this drama after I came across Dokko Jin, and the politics-based love story blew me away.  The closing scene was shot so perfectly I promised myself I will vow to be a single if I won’t get that kind of romantic scene for a wedding proposal..

GENRE:  Romantic Comedy, Drama     GRADE:  A+

City Hunter (2011) – I’m very fond of the lead couple after watching them in their respective Kdramas and I’ve loved them even more in this drama.  Very charming display of their characters. A story of revenge and realizing that there’s more to life than revenge.  It’s hard not to fall for this drama because it hit all the elements you can ask for.  Superb directing, scriptwriting and acting.  I could not ask for more.  ^_^

Dream High (2011) – breezy, glee-like-maybe-even-better, and lead actors that will put you most of the time in the land of “i want to be with you”… I say this is a dark horse this year and the musical bearing sets it apart from the rest of the dramas this season.

♥ Dong Yi (2008) – The historical drama was so beautiful less the unnecessary story arcs and lengthy narrative.  It was supposed to be character driven, it did hit it somehow but it grew tiring because it was sooo long.  The past few sageuks I saw layered and executed the conflicts in a very interesting and gripping way.  It made me nervous and anticipated where it will be leading me.  I felt that this series didn’t achieve that part because the build-up of the story took a while to finally settle to its rightful place.

GENRE:  Historical, Drama, Romance     GRADE:  A

♥ Dr. Jin aka Time Slip Dr. Jin (2012) – I struggled in finishing this drama, as Dr. Jin really took time to have all the pieces fall together.   Most of the episodes were open-ended, switching from the blending of the medical plot, the political dissensions and the paranormal insertions, which in my unbiased opinion was a no-nonsense attempt to present a different blend of sageuk drama.  In the tradition of period dramas, the death of the main characters, the daring moves of the villains and the counter-attack of the underdogs, the double-crossing and last minute betrayals kept hold of the sageuk feel.  The bromance and the supernatural-defying romance were also present and spun the major conflicts of the story.  It was flowing and got there without minding the bridge.  Albeit the craziness and lapses, it was still a good watch for me, but incomparable to sageuk classics.

East of Eden (2008) – bucket list

♥ Equator Man (2012) –  The outwitting game and the friendship that fell but found back its footing were some of the reasons why I gave a shot on this drama.  In a vengeance thriving and friendship betraying world, I was left moved and appalled.

This was a classic father-and-son love relationship spectacle.  A lot of faces of family attachment were shown… good and vile.
As for the ladies in the story, they supported well but their acting were mediocre… the main female lead was even on a stagnant acting note all the while, but then again the drama focused on the friendship so it doesn’t really matter.  The men really took the load to secure a strong story and a gripping ending.

GENRE:  Drama, Friendship, Romance     GRADE:  B

Evasive Inquiry Agency (2007) – bucket list

Exhibition of Fireworks (2006) – dreary storyline elevation… the only good thing to watch is Kang Ji Hwan… tolerable and forgettable…

GENRE:  Romantic Comedy     GRADE:  D

♥ Fashion King (2012) – Fashion King kicked off in a darth vader-ish tone… It was dark, cunning, treacherous and hindered.  It takes the realistic tone, no fancy playing and leaning to character driven conflicts.

Fashion King had a lot of weak points and loopholes.   There were a couple of dozing episodes and it was predictable, but kept escaping from it because they thought of a different way out plan than what would have been normally done.   If not for the immersion of the actors to their characters the drama would have been a failure for me.  I stayed with it because of Yoo Ah In mainly, but more than that would be its maturity and the transparent feel.   It thrived on my emotions.  It stood there tapping on my emotions annoying me, making me feel giddy, making me sigh and making me anticipate.

Compared with the rest of the second quarter kdrama bunch, what set apart this fashion world themed production was its fixed conflict of power manipulation and struggle that was concluded in a heart-wrenching fashion.  It’s a drama I won’t recommend to watch right away, but I will recommend to someone if he wants some time alone.  My verdict?   Watch.  Go with the flow.  Drool at Lee Je-hoo and forget he’s evil ways.  Munch Kang Young-gul as much as you can.  Be prepared for the ending.

GENRE:  Melodrama, Romance     GRADE:  C

♥ Faith (2012) – It was not as polished and calculated as City Hunter or Ghost, in fact it was sort of slow moving but it was moving to a direction where it was making the viewers joined the drama production… cheering for them, feeling each of the character’s pain, engrossed with the happy moments and frustrated with the inability to end the villains vile ways.  To make it simple, Faith was successful in establishing a connection that will not make it forgettable.

Assimilating the action plot with the supernatural spices and decorating it with folklore, having a band of villains equipped with mojos and x-men powers, a sassy and bubbly modern day doctor that was lost cutely to a new kind of living she was forced to live and of course the Thor-ish General who made my Kenshin Himura looked so inferior… were the essentials that made this drama such an enthralling TV experience.  The provocative plot matches the annoying villain assaults and the firm, arresting retaliation of the underdogs.  I know that goodness will prevail in the end, and I’m so looking forward to how the protagonists will take their final stand considering how smooth the pounces were of the bad guys.

Faith is a remarkably premeditated tale where notwithstanding the consistent dawdling and sageuk clichés it successfully notched the path where it was directing the audience – hope, holding on faith and happiness.  Faith’s ability to balance the transcendent elemental nonsense was plausible and cohering to how it mounted to the story’s peak.

♥ Five Fingers (2012) – When you have your protagonist, villains, counter-villains living inside the same roof scheming on how they can make each other suffer and retaliating at the same time, you get the best drama ensembles acting wise.  I present you Five Fingers – a story of a dysfunctional family that burned each episode with intense unlimited angst thrown at each other in a battle where money is thicker than blood and first love.

GENRE:  Melodrama, Romance, Family    GRADE:  A

♥ Flower Boy Ramyun Shop (2011) – The light, feel-good and fast-paced vibe sent me wanting for more, and ended up being satisfied as each episode ends.  Without trying that much the characters grew on me and Cha Chi Soo tied with Dokko Jin this year for my favorite male leads.  One of the best for 2011, it swept me off my feet the way Prince Charming could have never done it to me.  Charming and full of romantic bliss plus an adorable Second Lead as an extra perk, you’re a descendant of Lord Voldemort if you fail to appreciate it.

Haeundae Lovers (2012) – The hotel-tug-of-war, the quirkiest-quasi-mafia-ish-fisherman family I have ever laid my eyes on, the stubborn-quick-to-anger-but-adorably-handsome-prosecutor, and the love story that was brought about by a criminal chase and one after another jumping into wrong conclusions were reasons enough to enjoy this light drama.

It was swift and well-paced.  It was predictable and yet so fun to watch.  Amidst the 3rd quarter drama, Haeundae Lovers was not that conspicuous, underrated if I may say, and the irony of it is that it has the biggest heart so far from what I’ve seen… tapping on love, family and friendship in an uncomplicated and stirring way of defining life’s real moments.

Just like the serene ocean background setting, Haeundae Lovers was an endearing, calming drama that will drown a stressful week.  I am sure right now that it will certainly not be one of the best this year, but at least it didn’t disappoint me at all and was always making me smile while I am watching it.

Heartstrings aka “You’ve fallen For me” (2011) – I would recommend this to anyone suffering extreme heartache to trigger their ability to love again.  This is refreshingly sweet and the kind of drama you’ll watch and never get tired of it.. ♥ History of the Salaryman (2012) – History of the Salaryman was a very intelligent story of people moving around the corporate world.  The recent World Wars would fail in comparison to the forming and disbanding of alliances in this drama as they race to who will snatch the contest for “the most ambitious of ‘em all”.

Playing on deceit, out-foxing and counter-scourging, I say this is the Most DARING and the SNAPPIEST Korean Drama for 2012.

A consistent gripping drive culminating to a fulfilling kick-ass who’s the boss now finale? — History of the Salaryman is a stimulating watch that will taunt you while leaving you inspired at the same time.

I Need Romance (2011) – I Need Romance was a very fulfilling love drama to watch.  It drew the depth of commitment and the pain it comes when loving so amazingly and truthfully.  It has been bound realistically that the problems and happiness made the story so moving that I was able to relate to it.  When a drama made me sat to finish it in one sitting, the drama is a certified superb, Sung-soo and In-young’s love story did it to me.  I strongly vouched for this love series, women should watch it, and men will learn a lot from it.

♥ Jeon Woo Chi (2013) – Jeonwoochi might have failed to live through is “consistency” mantra but it was still a good watch.  This drama has half-convinced me to give a fair rating because of the humor surge and main actor’s performance.  Other than that the screenplay, directing and even the visual effects were just mediocrely done.

If you need a neutralizer to the 2013 romance drama spree, trust Jeonwoochi to provide you a breather.  Bewitching and fun, this drama won’t brag much but will make you smile.

♥ King 2 Hearts (2012) – King2hearts has always been polished, calculated but never failing to entice and push me to my assumed outcomes. That being said, what I applaud about this drama is how it seems predictable but will prove the viewers otherwise. But I would have wanted a different closure for Bong-gu… I could think of a lot of possible evil ways to end him because I was closed to calling the Criminal Minds team to help the North and South pin him down because of so much annoyance. Seriously I think they are now tired of having the male leads fought over the lead girl, so they are killing the second lead now… give way to the new face of the second-lead syndrome… It was a perfect Korean drama for the second quarter, all criteria were met… began well and ended with conviction.

Likeable or Not (2006) – this was quite long but I stayed with it, must be because of the warm feeling and the wonderful cast.

GENRE:  Family, Romance     GRADE:  B+

Love Marriage (2008) – I was kinda hesitant when I first took my DVD copy of this drama to watch.  When I look at the lead couple it felt like they were not in sync physically.  There’s nothing spectacular about the story itself and is very laid back, and that’s maybe the reason why I fell for it.

GENRE:  Romance     GRADE:  A

♥ Love Rain (2012) –  Love Rain… less the oldies’ side love story turned eventual conflict you made me smile and somehow you let romance rain… You are relaxing and very eye-pleasing to watch… you may not be the best romance drama yet so far this year, there’s a lot of opportunities to insert romantic interludes and took out unnecessary story arc… but hey, I did took time watching you…  and for that I blame it to your sweet and simple love take.

Coming from the director who gave the “season dramas” (Autumn in my Heart and the rest of the bunch), you are worth the hype even if some of the adorable scenes I already saw from other dramas.  What stood out in this drama was the beautiful cinematography as what the director’s trademark is and of course this is Jang Geun Seok’s way of bouncing back to my boyfriends’ list after the disappointing ride with Mary.  You are soothing and serene… a nice watch when you want some time to be alone.  ^_^

GENRE:  Romance, Melodrama    GRADE:  B

Love Story in Harvard (2004) – Kim Rae Won is an actor that can easily sink in to any character he takes, and until now he still amuses me how he does that.  He’s so feel good and engaging to look at, and he effectively displayed that in LSIH.  There are a lot of heart-fluttering scenes which KRW nailed superbly.  I’m a sucker for finding-a-lost-love-and-realizing-the-love-is-still-there-drama so regardless of minimal inconsistencies and out of the context scenes, the fluidity and realistic appeal of the romantic elements were enough for me to put this on my favorite list.

♥ Mandate of Heaven:  The Fugitive of Joseon (2013) – I have minor complaints mainly on the characters drawn in this series but the story regardless of the unnecessary lengthening was nicely moving for me albeit all the eye-rolling I did while stalking on it due to circumstances that really tested the endurance of the protagonist.  And because it was needed to strengthen the characters and make the plot thick, I can only comply.  Not ending at a confused state in each episode was good enough for me as I never put such high hopes on it.

Certainly not extravagantly made or quaintly conceived, but it was a fair showing all throughout.

♥ Man of Honor (2011) – in progress

Manny (2011) – in progress

♥ May Queen (2012) – What I liked about this drama is they compensated the long run to explain everything they have to explain.  They also made sure that each main character revolved and redeemed their personas.  I think I’ll have this drama as my yardstick to melodrama that’s not taking the romance as an integral part.  While it was not as stimulating as Five Fingers, it never lost its track to where it is heading.  I guess it helped that they drew delineation between the villains and the protagonists and clearly defined where the problems of the story was derived.  9/9/9

Mischievous Kiss (2010) – “Izatura na Kiss” is a very special story to me and its Taiwan counterpart stayed with me during those moments when a stray dementor sucked me with all the love I have in my life.  So having a point of comparison, the Korean adaptation fought hard to crawl its way inside me.  I like the couples but there’s still a “push” missing.  The irony of such distant characters to be falling in love is difficult to achieve, and I must say they did it fairly but I my heart still belongs to the Taiwan adaptation.  8.5/8/8

♥ Miss Ripley (2011) – bucket list

My Fair Lady aka Take Care of the Young lady (2010) – The false hope I felt for this drama was the same as how my favorite basketball team kept disappointing me by failing to grab a championship.  There are some worth your time but it’s mostly a waste.  The storyline was all over and wasn’t able to maximize the potentials of the actor.  I have a soft spot for Yoon Eun Hye, and I did give a lot of chances but enough is enough, it really didn’t hit an important nerve in me.  6/6/7

GENRE:  Romance     GRADE: D

♥ My Flowerboy Neighbor (2013) – This was a good while it last drama case, but you eventually will forget as time passes by.  While there are a few moments that will make you feel good and love-filled, it was not a solid love story you get to tell your friends.  It lost the vigor along the way when they have inserted the “love, dream, leave” triumvirate.

Sassy and sweet, this is a soothing spectacle perfect for teens this summer.  If you want to go with an upbeat characters, cute couple and a fairly done love story, go get your binoculars and take a peek at Flower Boy neighbor.  8/7.5/9

My Girl (2005) – The sweetheart that made me cross Han River and indulge myself to the yellow dramas.  With the recent “Scent of a Woman” episodes, Lee Dong Wook-ssi became a a hall-of-famer in my heart, and it was in this drama that I first fell madly and deeply in love with him.  *blush  Lee Da Hae justifying her perky role plus you-can’t-help-but-feel-giddy over romantic scenes, this is a drama that should be watch by Korean addict newbies for them to fully understand their potentials. 10/10/10

GENRE:  Romance     GRADE:  A+

My GF is a Gumiho (2010) – Being a self-confessed fan of the Hong sisters, I really enjoyed the supernatural-mythical-romantic elements in this drama.  One of the most remembered couple I guess in the Kdramaland. I was already a Sin Min Ah fan even before and her light and natural take on her character made me love her even more.  Beautiful, never a dull moment and will always be on anyone’s top favorites. 10/10/10

My Name is Kim Sam Soon (2005) – I really think Hyun Bin was given by Heavenly Father to me, and until now I still have that illusion. *giggles He’s that actor whose gaze can make me so mesmerize and drool of what it feels like to be with him, in short I was meant for him, and it’s a one side love. Sam Soon is an addictive drama, subconsciously and in the real world. The writing and the weight of the story was justified by the endearing couple. It something which will nudge you of what you have experienced at some point sometime in your realtionship. 10/10/10

My Princess (2011) It was good while it lasted, but being shown in a year full of quirky kdramas made me momentarily forgot how it used to feel when I was glued watching it. Another ironically awesome chemistry of lead actors, because I really didn’t expect it from Song Seung Heon and Kim Tae Hee. I won’t forget the “dear-mom-behind-the-door-confession-scene” and the mischievous pairing and their love-filled moments were a sigh to behold. 9/8.5/9

Myungwol the Spy (2011) – The sort-of-chaos that happened during the airing of this drama didn’t stop me from being immersed on the characters and the funny, exciting. full of twist, and undeniably pretty story. I became interested with Eric because of his character here, and when I check on his other dramas, the man sure can act and is really hot. Since rom-com dramas are everywhere in the kimchidrama land, it’s hard to generate a love story of a man and a woman that you haven’t seen, heard or read before, true there may have been love stories about spies, but the crisp and outlandish of Myungwol took me by surprise, and I just love surprises.  8/8.5/8

♥ Nice Guy aka Innocent Man (2012) – I’m not a fan nor did I dislike “Innocent Man”.  It was safe to a point that I liked so much the texture of the main lead’s character Kang Ma Ru, but I won’t vouch for how they contemplated on the movement of the story.  I liked that it gave us a feeling of relying that there’s always another day to hope and believe in life even if you’ve gone through days of tears, pain and sacrifice.  8/8/8

♥ Nine Times Travel (2012) – Notching superbly those climactic cliff-hangers and seamlessly presented the consistent timeline transitions and convergence, this drama would have mocked all the time-traveling stories last year. Halfway through 2013, story, directing and editing wise, I found my kdrama to beat.

My Sherlock veins was immensely gratified that I paid less attention to the romantic side which in all fairness was also a satisfying bliss. It was a balanced fusion of a character and plot-driven tale where its incredulous premise was chronicled unembellished and not leaning to injecting inconceivable trajectories due to its supernatural setting.   10/9.5/10

Oh! My lady (2010) – This seems to be a quasi-last scandal-drama for me, but I enjoyed it more maybe, because of the good-natured heroine and the frolicsome lead actor were most of the time dandy and entrancing.  8/8/8

♥ Only You (2005) – This reminds me of local pocketbook stories I used to read when I was young, where there was a time jump and when the couple meets again, they realized that there was a love remained hidden inside the deepest trench of their hearts. The confrontations and the magnet pull-aways of the characters I think will make it worthwhile for you to watch it. A classic rich-boy-adores-poor-girl with the scenic Italy and restaurant bound love tale. 8.5/8.5/9

♥ Operation Proposal (2012) – The pacing and the timing were injected smoothly in the movement of the time wrinkling happening in the drama.  It was neatly done that I didn’t lose interest in it.  If you are looking for a complete romance drama with a magical side dish – Operation Proposal would serve the purpose.  9/9/9

♥ Panda and Hedgehog (2012) – Panda and Hedgehog was an epitome of a predictable drama and there are a lot of opportunities acting wise.  It was an easy watch, you will just go with the flow and will never trigger a negative feeling in your veins.  It won’t promise you ohlalas but it won’t disappoint you either.  It worked well that they limited the characters, they simplified the conflicts, but they added zest in the romance and relationship of their main players.  That I think was the reason why I finished Panda and Seul-ji’s love story, they didn’t dig on misunderstandings.  They know what they want all throughout, they withdrew when they can’t, but they took a stand when they have to.  It was a realist romance, and even the sugar-coating was true to life.  8/7/8

Personal Preference (2010) – Starred by my favorite actress and another one-sided love of mine, I could not ask for more. *giggles There were lots of bright tones here which I can say compensated to some dry moments and knots that were loosely conspicuous in a kdrama addict’s eye. The doting scenes melted me and made me craved for more so some scenes that are really unnecessary were left forgotten. 8.5/8/9

Prosecutor Princess (2010) – Intricately woven narrative with great lines and superbly layered sequence build up plus effectively personified characters made me swoon over this drama. The “confrontation-kiss-scene” brought me to the edge of ever after and had me promised myself I will vow to be a single if it’s not Park Shi Hoo that I’m gonna marry with.. *giggles This is alluring and classic, a great watch and will live up to your expectation. 10/10/10

Protect the Boss (2011) – A strong willed heroine who can’t be bullied by the villains + a clumsy overly cute hero + another charming hottie for the second lead = Abby so happy on her K-drama day.  It was a typical plain girl torn between the affections of two rich heirs of a business conglomerate.  Actually there’s nothing extraordinary about this drama, the feel of it and some story arcs you might have experienced before from previous rom-coms, but it’s the chemistry of the entire cast I think that made it such a hit.  Plus it’s nice to have villains who were not so evil and who got to be bullied by the lead actress.  The romantic progression and conflict were well laid, simple and very amusing, although I have a slight issue with the last conflict, and I’m on the heroine’s side because I also detest waiting, confusing closure, and doors faintly open for a hope of another entrance to love.  8/8/8

GENRE:  Romantic Comedy     GRADE:  B

Que Sera Sera (2007) – The simplicity is powerful and the character driven narrative will leave you breathless.  It’s so emotion-filled and gripping, with heart tugging lines and you-don’t-want-to-be-put-in scenarios when it comes to loving someone.  This is where I saw Eric as an actor and not just a hottie.  *wink 9/9/9

♥ Queen In Hyun’s Man (2012) – Queen In Hyun’s Man has managed to outwit me and convincingly swayed me with what story drive I imagined to be achieved… He was playfully smiling at me in a “and you thought you had me figured out abby” kind of way.  With the time travelling and fantasy parade in the KDramaLand, he has managed to surprise all the players with his neat time transitions enabling a consistent and enticingly appealing plot.  Rarely would you remember equally the story and the characters, but with Queen In Hyun’s Man, the characters synchronized well with the story and strangely the characters would be able to stand alone as the story retain its brilliance and vice versa.  It was a supernatural and reality love drama at its best and is a romance story so worth of my time and even curing my recently running emotional limbo bound self.  It definitely deserved a slot in my hall-of-famers.  Yes it did.  10/10/10

Queen of Reversals (2010) – Sweet and sent me to self-realizing for a day… Actually this drama got me because of Park Shi Hoo, didn’t read reviews about it which I normally do.  I’m just hopelessly in love with him so I just want to stare at his face even if I will not watch the story itself.  *giggles But I love how this drama turned out to be and there are lot of relationship ideas that were pointed out so prettily.  Hwang Tae Hee will be one of my favorite heroines.  9/9/9

♥ Rooftop Prince (2012)- This was the first drama I saw with reincarnation plot in full swing (memory searching… really no other drama with reincarnation plot yet).  The adorable 3 Musketeers were a bundle of bliss, a sight to behold, a manna from Heaven.  The laughter I got from their modern transformation supplied enough happiness pills to cover the recent job nausea I’m getting at work.

The cute lead couple exhibited on screen chemistry.  Lead couple for rom-coms has a tendency to be so tiring to watch if they get either super-insensitivity attack or overly-loving complex.  Yi Gak and Park Ha were smooth as a couple.  The romance was not rushed, and with that love-transcending-time premise, excuse me Romeo and Juliet here’s the couple to beat.

It was not your perfect drama technical and script wise… in fact there were a few labyrinth-bound story plots and out of place conflicts, but then again the sweet moments and the laughter were all so worth it, so you would hardly notice the lapses…  It’s that love tale that I don’t want to end and I can’t get enough of… and the reincarnation storyline somewhat helped me to move on… 9/8.5/10

Save The Last Dance For Me (2004) a beautiful moving story of finding love and falling in love all over again to the same person.  It is my favorite Eugene drama.  At some point it was slow moving but it essentially helped the narrative of the drama.  This is like a love story taken out of your favorite harlequin novel but with a more pronounced lingering effect.  9/8.5/9

GENRE:  Romance, Melodrama     GRADE:  A

Say You Love Me aka Tell Me You Love Me (2004) – Kim Rae Won is one of those Korean actors with a very commanding acting ability.  He sinks in to his character effortlessly but still not diminishing the emotion.  I felt a lot of emotions watching this drama.  I felt the warmth, pain, angst, disappointments and love.  I surrendered to how Rae Won’s character groped his way to his limitations more than to his yearnings, I’m just glad that I got my ever-after eventually.  10/9/9

Scent of a Woman (2011) –   I won’t forget Yeon-jae and Ji-wook’s love story.  Theirs is full of passion, trust and commitment to love each other whatever the future holds.  To date this is my favorite Korean drama ever and Yeon-jae and Ji-wook’s lovestory will always be special in my heart.  A love tale that has made me cried big time, but still made me feel hopeful after the tears.  Scent of a Woman is so life and love affirming that it affected me in a way that it made me get so serious with making my own bucket list.  If a newbie will ask me what I can recommend for a first time watcher, without hesitation, I will certainly recommend this drama.  10/10/10

♥ School 2013 (2013) – School 2013 narrated the typical classroom setting where side stories of the A-student, bullies, slow-learners, mediocres and uncaring students struggled to keep up with their personal issues alongside the stress they were getting while getting educated.  This is very easy to digest and almost anyone can relate to because everyone was once a student. 8/8/8

Secret Garden ( 2010) – The pairing of two of my favorite Korean actors doesn’t need any effort to convince me to stay glued at it.  Endearing and heart flutters can be felt everywhere.  And even if there were some faulty, unnecessary plot, the acting prowess and the chemistry of the lead couple can suffice whatever there may be lacking in the story.  This is a classic example if the lead couple bringing the best to one another.  One of my personal picks and is in my highly-recommended list.  10/10/10

She is Nineteen (2004) – It was really saddening that a talent like Jung Da Bin departed too early.  She could have done a lot more promising dramas.  I like her also in Attic cat.  One of the few actresses who can easily give justice to whatever character she took.  What I remembered about this drama was really her portrayal.  It was so heartfelt you can really relate to her character.  Life motivating and heartwarming.  9/8/8

Shining Inheritance (2009) – I rarely watch mellow drama but there was something engaging in this modern-day-Cinderella-meets-spoiled-prince-romantic-interlude.  Seeing Han Hyo Joo in a different light was a surprise because I was not happy when I first saw her in Spring Waltz.  If not for the brilliant portrayal of the villain step mom here and how Eun-sung struggled and defeated the odds, the story will really not go beyond plain to interesting.  8/8.5/9

Stairway to Heaven (2003) – I have dysfunctional tear ducts, even with someone just telling a sob story, I will really sob.  So with visuals and tear inducing music, I thought I won’t be able to cry anymore for the next ten years when we were watching this drama.  The Stairway experience for me was okay, nothing spectacular, and was normally just attacking my emotions.  Considering that the story is a classic you-and-me-against-the-world-kind-of-love, it has to exert more flavour so that it will not be forgettable.   I got to remember it but only because it was so sad it felt like a dementor to me.  7/7/8

GENRE:  Super Melodrama, Romance     GRADE: C

♥ Stars Falling from the Sky (2010) – I like strong heroines and I like them even more when they show their vulnerability and make adjustments to their liabilities.  A woman was forced to leave her usual girly and well-off life when her parents died.  She was left taking care of her color-coded siblings.  The instant family set-up and the love you have tried to give up but you ended up falling even more made me so fond of this drama.  9/9/9

“That Winter, The Wind Blows” was a poignant love drama that will make you remember how you were scared to start a love you were unsure of, and how you took the odds to claim it.  This was a cure for people with “trust issues” and its delightful and piercing romance take will definitely appeal to people wanting to love… wanting to be in love and wanting to be loved back.  It was a splendid romantic drama ride for me.  It was not perfect but it was emotionally astonishing.   9/9/9

♥  The 1st shop of Coffee Prince (2007) – Coffee Prince cemented my growing fondness towards Yoon Eun Hye.  *giggles  I liked her in Goong, and I like her even more here.  The music was so refreshing.  How the love grew between the lead characters was simply laid and yet so affecting and definitive.  If you are currently having a bitter heart because of a failed relationship it can surely disarm you and walk you through appreciating love again. 10/10/10

♥ The Great Seer (2012-2013) – The Great Seer slowly stimulated me until I finished it.  I learned a few things about geomancy as well. It won’t definitely have a second serving for me, but if you are trying to educate yourself with Korean history, this would be a great help as the founding of Joseon era was the culmination of the storyline of this period TV story.  8/8/7

♥ The King of Dramas (2012) – The King of Dramas is beautiful depending on the perceiver’s eyes.  If you are up to just rose petals and romance, then this might not work for you.  It was a drama that was narrating a great story of bouncing back after a slump in someone’s life.  8.5/9/8

♥ The Greatest Love aka “Best Love” (2011) – If Hong sisters wrote the drama, it must be good.  I don’t know what kind of water these sisters drink for them to come up with really good love stories.  Dokko Jin entered my lead man Hall of Fame list and Pil-joo joined Geol-ah to my “really-they-deserved-the-girl” list.  This is something you will dream of when you sleep and a very good reason for you to bargain with time to speed up so that the day of its airing can happen.  Certified on Abby’s must-watch list   10/10/10

GENRE:  Romantic Comedy     GRADE: A+

♥ The Man Who Can’t Get Married (2010) – I don’t know if I’m weird or something but I like the “man” here who can’t get married.  He’s a geek, organized and gets annoyed with something irrelevant, aren’t those reasons enough to love him?  But here’s a case of even how much adoring the main character is if there are loopholes in the scriptwriting, it still won’t be enough to suffice a fluid narrative.  More than that my Geol-Ah isn’t cute here so that’s another point that did disappoint me.  7/7/8

GENRE:  Romance, Drama     GRADE:  C

♥ The Moon That Embraces The Sun (2012) –  The young love which blooms and defied time, reasons, and political issues are what makes the production applauded I believe.  The strong and consistent character portrayals, supernatural seasonings, family issues and brotherly love cemented the viewers’ loyalty I say.

The series as a whole was creatively conceived, but I won’t say I’m all praises to it compared to what I felt with the recent sageuks I saw.  It was euphoric on its strong notes and contemplating on its sad tones.  9/9/10

♥ The Tree With Deep Roots (2011) –  I love how the main characters were so intricately intertwined in the duration of the series.  Their portrayals were remarkable and added flavor in supporting each member of the cast.  Come to think of it, it was a story of the founding of the Korean alphabet, and I was with them the whole time.  The King I hope will meet the king villain of Princess’ Man, they will make a good bout.  Haha just kidding  Seriously, this drama is a niche in holding your attention without you understanding where the motivation came.  It could be the well told tale, the amazing emotional characters, the exciting fight scenes or the playing of the well-conceived rules of the game.  9.5/9.5/10

♥ You’re Beautiful (2009) – One of the few dramas who killed me with so much anticipation. Great chemistry between our favorite K-band characters. After Jang geun Seok swept me off my feet here I hunted all his KOrean movies and watched it. Amazingly sweet and with lots of love vibes. 10/10/10

GENRE:  Romantic Comedy, Musical     GRADE:  A+

♥ You Who Came From Another Star aka My Love From Another Star (2014) – I can say a lot of beautiful things about this drama but to make it simpler, I will just say that it is currently my all time favorite.  I was happy to witness the closure which gave me a happy ending and yet not leaving entirely its supernatural premise.  You Who Came From Another Star’s finale didn’t force the issue and gave a satisfying ending for hopeless romantics and threw a lightsaber party to scifi geeks.    It yielded a make sense ever after dream for the lead girl who has been patient to his eventual wormhole traveling man who fulfills his promise to his woman.  A classic love-you-when-you’re-here-with-me and love-you-even-more-even-if-you-leave irony and yet so indulging of wistful memories.  It was a heartfelt love affirming ending befitting of the bravery, honesty, unrequited love and a surreal romance wrapped in a pink bow.  10/10/10

You Who Came From Another Star Series

  1. Hi Jediiprincess! I’ve been reading your blog since you created the Taiwanese list of dramas. ^_^ Now, I’m trying to explore Korean shows. However, I liked “I miss you” more than “Goong/Princess Hours.” I was a bit sad because Yul and Hyorin were hurting there in Princess Hours. They are good characters yet they ended up broken </3 But that does not seem to be the case. In "I miss you," the young characters acted very well making me cry every single time they cry or they appear (and at some point, I wished they did not grow up at all). Of all the Korean actresses, I like the young Lee Soo-Yeon the most ^_^ is there any other shows of her, where she is the lead actress? Thank you in advance! 🙂

  2. try it’s ok it’s love… amazing story as well as the ending and of course the casts…

  3. Thank you for this list.
I will choose now what will be my next target as i just finished watching ‘My love from another star’ 🙂
    Thank you very much!

  4. I really love watching all of these, and I must say I watch half on your list.

I also want to recommend this:

    Family’s Honor
    smile, you
    me too, flower
    New tales of Gisaeng
    Good Doctor
    Wonderful mama
    Birth Secret

looking forward for more list of KDramas.

    • Thank you for your recommendations. I will add that to my watch list too. ^_^

  5. Hi! I bookmarked your site, after watching one drama and looking for new drama to watch, I re-read your list and reviews. I’m not a kdrama addict but I love watching them, maybe because kdramas are lighter than what we have in our country.. It takes 2 days for me to finish 1 drama with 20 episodes 😀

Hope to keep in-touch with you and I hope you could help me choose which to watch next..

By the way, I’m still inlove with Geol Ah. *wink!

    • Hi gara, some of d dramas i have a series review so i think it would help you.. or u can tell me d genre u like and i can recommend nice ones for u.. happy new year! ^_^

I like normal story with romantic-comedy, romance with light drama.. I was hooked with Creating Destiny for weeks and King 2 Hearts for almost a month.. I also love gender bender but time travel and historical drama doesn’t appeal much to me.. I listed few dramas I cherished..

It started with a kiss, They Kiss Again, Playful Kiss, Itazura na Kiss (tdrama, jdrama, kdrama)
        King 2 Hearts
        Creating Destiny
        I need Romance 1 and 2
        Sungkyunkwan Scandal
        You’re Beautiful
        Bel Ami
        Personal Preference
        Shinning Inheritance

i’m a Filipino, do you have skype? Thank you!

      • Hi my skype id is j3diprincess but i rarely use it but I’m active on kakao also jediprincess/j3diprincess.

Thank you for sharing your dramas to watch. ^_^

    • “I’m not a kdrama addict but”……………. LOL, you will soon admit your addiction =P just a recommendation, i see you have watched I need romance 1-2, number 3 is just as good, and the OST is wonderful too

  6. Mr. D,
Yes, Noona did create a Drama Addict out of me! It’s ok. Even though I’ve lost a lot of sleep it’s all good. I’m loving the Kdramas. I’ve watched all the ones you mentioned except Kane and Abel. Haven’t heard of that one yet. I still can’t believe I used to just watch the movies. Hey, if you want a more up to date place to go and talk KDramas Tony created a forum. Come check it out. I’m “imfaerae” over there and Tony is well, “Tony”! Come say hi if you get the chance.

  7. ahh its been a while since i was here~ ^ ^
hi miss abby! im checking out new k-dramas for my list..
im watching flowerboy neighbor and next is flower boy reymunshop
    then maybe dating agency; cyrano
and of course the sequel to my fave answerme1997~ answer me 1994 😄

    • Russell,
I’m currently watching Reply 1994 too. I watched the two in reverse though. I got hooked on 1994 then went and marathoned 1997. They’re really good dramas!

  8. It was so generous of you to give a B for Dr. Jin and Panda And Hedgehog then Give Shut Up FBB a D. Haha, That’s… haha. That’s entirely impossible. There’s no way the craptastic Dr. Jin and creeptastic Panda would be better than Shut up in any aspect nor any form or shape. Tsk. That’s funny.

    • Hi Armie,

I appreciate your feedback but it’s my blog opinion and I’m sorry I don’t agree with your liking to SUFBB. Though there were a lot of opportunities for Dr. Jin, I have learned some traditional medicine information and Panda is laid back and in its own right refreshing even if the storyline is typical. I’m 30, so I’m not drawn with angsty teen dramas. For that type of dramas, I did enjoy Monstar. Have a good day! ^_^

  9. Thanks Ketaki for mentioning Coffee Princes. I wrapped up City Hunter and Faith recently and moved on to Coffee Princes. I’m only on episode 4 but I’ll be finished in the next few days. So far, it’s quite fun. Thanks!

  10. Finished Boys Over Flowers. *sigh* I’m always a little bit sad when I finish a drama. Even though it had a happy ending I’m going to miss the lovely ride.

  11. There are so many to watch. I hadn’t heard of Coffee Prince yet. Ended up watching Secret Garden again. I’ve been listening to the soundtrack a lot and couldn’t help myself. Silly of me when there’s so many more to watch.

    • =) looks like noona has created another helpless k drama addict, she “turned” me around 3 years ago and ive been hooked ever since, even to the extent of bridging out to J drama land and some chinese and japanese films too.

As Abbey said above, if you like 49days and Secret garden then My GF is a gumiho is an absolute must see, Queen inhyuns man is also and i would personally recomend Kane and Abel, thats the firrst drama i found my self actually shouting at my tv =).

Good luck and remember to get some sleep, although im not really in a position to talk, done many an all night session my self

      Mr Ð

      • Hi dearies, sorry for the late reply.. im in a semi hiatus but im watching heirs, golden rainbow, reply 94 these days… and d movies r piling soo much it’s covering me already because i can’t find time to watch.. noona is in love u see.. but i will find time come january next year.

  12. I cant tell u how thankful I am for this blog. Have been on a spree watching dramas lately. cannot get over the “coffee prince” hangover! such a lovely serial to watch 🙂

  13. Ah Abby, I hear you when it comes to Jung Il Woo! Can we say kissing scene in Flower Boy Ramen Shop? 🙂 And the goodbye scene in 49 days was absolutely phenomenal. I thought about watching My Fair Lady just because he’s in it-even though you didn’t rank it very high. I also considered watching Moon Embracing the Sun but I’m not sure the story appeals to me (and it looks like he’s not the main lead anyway). And hey, what’s the deal with some of the kissing in these dramas? Lips just touching is not a kiss in my opinion. he he Where’s the passion? Geez! (Speaking of which, the movie Secret Love has the best passion scenes I’ve seen so far. But I digress…) I’m in my 40’s so I’m not adverse to amping it up a little. Netflix has dozens of dramas but the 10 that keep coming to the top are: Boys Over Flowers, Playful Kiss, Lie to Me, City Hunter, You are Beautiful, 12 Signs of Love, My GF is a Gumiho, My Princess, Creating Destiny, and Full House. You and Tony haven’t steered me wrong so any recommendations you’ve got, I’ll take.

  14. Writer-turned-crazy-somewhere-in-the-story meter! That’s funny. I haven’t hit any of those yet. Thanks for my welcome to addict land. Luckily, it’s summer and my schedule is pretty light. I don’t know what’s going to happen when the kids get back in school and their sports start. Until then, I’m absorbing as much as I can, as fast as I can. I think the next on my list is Flowers Over Boys but I was also thinking of switching to a movie and finally watching The Classic. We’ll see how I feel after work. Thanks Abby~

    • The classic is very nice.. one of my favorites.. boys over flowers is a trendy drama… idk what list u have there at netflix but if you can name 10, i and tony might help you with the rankings… u were really that engrossed with 49 days and you haven’t seen my gf is a gumiho, faith and queen in hyun’s man… i also like the scheduler most in 49 days, well because i like jung il woo so much… he is one of the best kissers among the k-actors in dramaland.. happy watching dear! ^_^

  15. Oh Abby and one question. What does “parking lot” mean next to your K-drama titles? I understand bucket list but parking lot? I’m assuming you’re just not in any rush to get to that particular drama?

    • when I put a drama in the parking lot, it means I have intentions to watch it but when I get a lot of time some day…^_^

  16. Abby, I just watched 49 Days this past weekend. Really, I think your ratings should include cry-o-meters. *laughing* I’m still trying to get over the ending. I got so hooked on this drama and wanted to see if she was going to get her 3 tears that I actually watched the last 15 episodes back to back staying up all night until 9:30am the next morning. *geez-I haven’t had an all-nighter since my college days! I also finished watching Secret Garden before 49 Days. I really liked that one and liked the happy ending. I’m a happy ending type of gal. You and Tony were right. The dramas are so much more than just watching Korean movies. I started watching Heartstrings last night, hoping for lighter fare over 49 days…

    • dear, thank you for the very good suggestion… i will fix the cry-o-meter, romance meter, writer-turned-crazy-somewhere-in-the-story meter, story and screenplay meter, directing and editing meter, acting and cast chemistry meter and cutesies and humor on my list… and yes, you are now officially a kdrama addict… enjoy the long nights and those feeling of not wanting to do anything but just staying glued at watching them… ^_^

  17. Hi, Abby I’m Ana from Bangladesh. When I first decided to watch Kdramas I didn’t know which dramas to watch. Then I came across your blog and watched the dramas that you gave perfect 10 ratings. I think you give the best ratings. Every perfect 10 dramas are really awesome. Thank you so much. After finishing all the A+ dramas I’ll watch the A grade dramas. I always visit your blog for k drama and movie recommendation though this is the 1st time I’m writing. Keep up the good work. 🙂

    • Hi anna,

Thank you for the kind words, im on a quick hiatus but i will be doing 4 drama recaps very soon… i have to catch up with my american tv series too… that’s why…

  18. thanks for the ratings of Gaksital,i really appreciate it. for me,it was the best drama of 2012. hoping they win in baeksang art awards. and also,i recently finished watching My Husband Got a Family,it was good. it keeps thugging at your heartstrings. hope to watch again a good and nice drama.

  19. @Russel
Soooorrry for mistaking you as a girl, but it is very rare to meet a boy who likes korean romance movies/dramas and it always suprises me^^
You use the word tsundere so you like anime? Zero no tsukaima, toradora, the melancholy of haruhi suzumiya, lucky star, may be terms for you 😀
Tsundre drama/movies …Take care of the young Lady has a tsundere, but is not good. Dream high has a good tsundere and the drama is good. I think the heroine in History of a salary Man may be a tsundere but its genre is not romance. My Girlfriend is a gumihos heroine is not a tsundere, but lets say she is…unique (and my fav heroine) *cough* gumiho *cough*
The heroine is not from T-ARA, but they are both crossdressing dramas. Hers is not airing and will be about a girl who dresses up as a boy, to work as a fingernail designer, while coffee prince is about a girl who dresses up as a boy to work at a coffee shop^^
I am just asking myself: Dressing up as a boy to work at a nail studio? Does that make sense?

    • its alright~ hahaha, well im kinda not into anime these days, since all i’ve been downloading r k-drama/movies, im currently dl-ing romance of their own, then flower boy neighbor then coffee prince in que~

yep i understood what u said, i kinda get the plot since i watched some episodes on tv

hey anni~ imma recommend to u reply to 1997~ coz its my fave hahaha ^ ^

  20. Hey abby (and fellow jediprincess fans^^)
Have you heard about the dramabeans meetup? I can not go because I live at the other side of the world TT . TT
    What about you?

    • Hi dear, yes i saw it… i’m also on the other side of the world… so i on’t be able to come.

  21. okay just found it~ ^ ^
although reply to me 1997 is the 1st kdrama i just dl’ed i think it would be my top favorite already~
i got dreamhigh, my gf is a gumiho and heartstrings as well, but they couldn’t (for me) compare to reply 1997

haha everytime i see shi won’s cute kid grin, i also grin as well~ hahaha

imma try the princess prosecutor next, since i’ve watched some episodes on animax
oh and btw do u have any moar recommendations for uhh.. ^ ^ (sadist-like) shi-won like actresses in k-dramas/movies? haha
im starting to have a weak spot for em ❤

    • hi russel, thank you for stopping by here… if you prefer romcoms and heroine like shiwon… I would suggest… tututut it’s hard to suggest because I have to at least know your age… but if you liked reply 1997, you would like Flowerboy neighbor, flowerboy ramyun shop, heartstrings, rooftop prince, greatest love, my gf is a gumiho, princess hours, secret garden and coffee prince… If you are done with this recommendations, just message me. Although the perfect 10 ratings on this list are worth watching… Take care. -jediprincess

and im now curious on w/c suggestions would you recommend now that you know my age, hahaha

      • Hi russell, i want to know your age so i will know which drama to recommend. Try flower boy neighbor and flower boy ramyun shop first… they were from the cable network that gave reply 1997…

        why are there mature&restriced/r18+ k-series you would/can recommend? hahaha ^ ^

      • Hi russell, the movies with mature content is always under someone’s prerogative to watch.. lol i’m just giving a forewarning because you’ll never know what the movie might be and if your mom tags along when you watch movie (like my mom does), it’s kinda embarassing. ^_^

really? and i thought only anni mistook me for a girl, haha
        what made u thought i was a girl 😄

both of u & anni haha

    • Sorry if I bother you, but I would recommend for a newbie Coffee Prince, (My favourite Drama of all time. The lead couple has amazing chemestry and the show is funny and heartfelt) You re beautiful (The heroine is sometimes boring, but still cute. The lead is brilliant and a funny bad boy and the second lead is the most pitiful guy ever.) City Hunter, the best drama of 2011 (I do not know if you are a boy (Russel is a name for boys, if I am correctly informed), but if you are, you will love it because of its amazing action scenes. If you re a girl, you will still love it because of the lead couples sweet bickering and the Lee-Min-Hoo-shower-scenes)

well im going to dl flower boy and raymun shop first then, im putting coffee prince on que, as well
if i remember correctly, a girl from t-ara is on that series? (i think) so it makes it more interesting for me ^ ^
i like tsundere/sadist type girls~ hahaha like windstruck,replyto1997 and my sassygirl, oh an also sex is zero1&2 main-girls~ not so much on action thou

      • Got it russell, sorry i mistook you for a girl.

  25. @Mr. D hello! ive watched secret garden and i love it! on my top 10 list! yeah i agree with you about what happened in bali…too much for me….it was ok but not on my list hahaha…take care! ^^

    • Hi Dear, What Happened in Bali is one of my favorites… *chuckles I don’t know I just like weird romance storyline maybe that’s why… but acting wise it was really good… when love triangle gets confusing, death is the solution… *giggles

  26. Well its been a while, been very busy working my butt off, thought i would check in and say hi, @Dane, try watching secret garden, prob one of my fav dramas ever. what happened in bali is a little full on and i cant stand the girl who plays the house mate

  27. Abby, hahaha its ok…i didnt like What happened in Bali either…it broke my heart..hahah i guess theres a lot to like about it but it was too much for my faint heart hahaha..but still its nice shgaring and knowing our likes and differences here, right? 🙂 have a good day! #gottawork

  28. hey there! havent been here in a while…just read the previous posts and so great to be back! ive been busy myself LOL…@ Mr. D, id have to agree I sooo love Innocent Man! OMG! Song Joong-ki is super here. great cast, great acting, great story! i forgot my “list” at home so maybe next time (if i remember) ill post the dramas ive watched so far and maybe get to post my ratings here as well hahaha (trying hard) take care you guys! *fighting!*

    • Hi Dane, I also loved Kang Ma Ru but I’m really sorry I didn’t like Innocent Man that much… Happy New year to you… There’s a bunch of great dramas lately…

  29. finally, i’m finished with Haeundae Lovers and Panda and the Hedgehog, and next on my list are Queen In-Hyun’s Man and Rooftop Prince, does anyone of you know where i can download Queen In-Hyun’s Man ost? please, thanks.:)

  30. Did you vote for the Beanie Award?

    • hi anni, not yet but I saw d post already.. but I will vote for it too..

      beaming, abby

  31. i’m not done yet with Faith and Queen In Hyun’s Man, i just did some recaps of the two drama’s from dramabeans, but based from recaps of Faith, i will think about watching it, i’m not a fan of Lee Min-Ho or Kim Hee-Sun either , i paused for Haeundae Lovers and started and also finished watching Innocent Man, great portrayals by the actors, in depth acting, Song Joong-Ki materialize into a great actor and also Moon Chae-Won, i love her in The Princess Man and i still love her character in Innocent Man, next in my list to watch is Gaksital.:)

  32. What should I watch: King 2 hearts or Queen In hyuns man?

    • Both are great dramas, but I like queen in hyun’s man more than king2hearts.. please refer to my review anni.. tc.. unnie is a bit busy have to finish all my pending dramas this year… I’m not yet done with panda, I enjoyed reply 1997. ^_^

      beaming, abby

Im a big fan of ji won, but i think id agree with Noona on this, queen inhyuns man was really well pieced together

  33. With the conclusion of both Faith and Innocent Man, i think my list for best of 2012 is going to change slightly.

Faith, With the amazingly creative ending and how it intertwined into the whole story its going to have to be moved up to No1 knocking both QIHM and K2H down. It was truly an emotional roller coaster but also very nice to look at, i sometimes feel that with any dramas that have to rely heavily on sets / historical buildings, there is a risk that it just wont feel right, i kind of felt that problem with Dr Jin, but definitely not with Faith, yes, the super powers thing was a little far fetched, but it by no means meant that any 1 person was indestructible and it was not over used, thus, it just helped to heightened the feeling of risk and danger.

The King (Ryu Duk Hwan) and Queen (Park Se Young), although they start off as destined enemies, their love blossoms and made me feel all warm inside, they go through so much pain through out the whole series, and it does seem at times that the queen is really the only person whom understands the king and why he does what he does, was creat to watch their fate take its course.

As usual, Abby noona’s faourite sword wielding hero was impressive with how comfortable his acting is in regards to combat (i still think he looks awkward kissing tho, Maybe noona should teach him a thing or 2??) Credit where its due, he is a good actor, but….. i just dont like him all that much… sorry noona ♥

One last thing, i cant believe that Kim Hee-sun (Yoo Eun-soo) is almost 36 years old!!! she is looking mighty fine for a lady of her age =), she was lively and brought light to the screen, her playful portrail of Eun-soo was a pleasure to watch & i really liked it when she was trying to be assertive and forthright…. kind of made me chuckle after seeing how soft Eun-soo could be.

I wonder whats in the pipeline next from the writers and director, maybe another collaboration in the future?

Director: Kim Jong Hak, Shin Yong Hwi
    Screenwriter: Song Ji Na

    9.7/10 Almost perfect

That is not the only change tho……..

Innocent Man, i started watching it as the drama had almost finished airing, hadn’t read any reviews or had it recommended, i just decided to watch it, good call……….It started off and i was instantly intrigued, it slowed down a little on eps 2-3 but it managed to worm its way into my prime time drama viewing.

Park si-yoen played her part as Jae-hee, seamlessly, she will make an excellent villain for years to come, although she only seems to have one angry face pose =). Kim Tae-Hun as Ahn Min-Young, i felt sorry for him, his feelings being abused so he could be used as a puppet, not nice, and he realized too late
Song Joong-Ki as Kang Ma-ru & Moon Chae-Won as Eun Gi played their respective parts amazingly with great on screen chemistry between the pair. Jong ki seemed comfortable playing both good cop and bad cop (so to speak)
Lee Yoo-Bi as Cho co & Lee Kwang-Soo as Jae-Gil were painfully slow in coming together as a couple but it made it all the more worth wile when they actually connected.
Lee Sang-Yeob played Park Joon-Ha, hopelessly in love with one person he can never be with, by no fault of his own, was heart breaking, ive seen similar cases in dramas before, but this one seemed to creep up one me.

All in all………i cried……..quite a bit, especially when i thought it had all gone wrong, again! Very well put together i hope to see more from this writer and director combo

    Director: Kim Jin-Won
    Writer: Lee Kyeong-Hee

This means, that my now slightly adjusted best of 2012 is as follows (only going to show affected changes)

    1- 2012-Aug-13 2012-Oct-30 Faith
    2- 2021-Sep-12 2012-Nov-15 Innocent Man
    3- 2012-Apr-18 2012-Jun-07 Queen In Hyun’s Man
    4- 2012-Mar-21 2012-May-24 The King 2 Hearts
    5- 2012-May-26 2012-Aug-12 A Gentleman’s Dignity
    6- 2012-May-30 2012-Aug-02 Ghost
7- 2012-Jan-04 2012-Mar-15 The Moon That Embraces the Sun
    8- 2012-Aug-15 2012-Oct-18 Arang and the Magistrate
    9- 2012-Mar-21 2012-May-24 Rooftop Prince
    10-2012-Aug-18 2012-Oct-07 Panda and Hedgehog

Hope you enjoy the dramas and my comments

    Mr Ð
P.s, sorry for the different presentation styles, i wrote one on a day off with time to spare, and the other was a little more rushed =)

    • Did you like Panda and Hedgehog? Dramabeans wrote that it is not so good and they rated Answer me 1997 better…confused O.O

    • hi rich, i just saw your very long year end deliberation… not complaining here. promise. my problem though is that the dramas that I loved this year I won’t rank because I felt the same way at the time that it was airing so I will just select the 7 luckiest drama that captured my heart and made me powerless, enslaved into watching and embracing the world they were playing… I won’t tell it yet though, I think you know some already until 4th quarter dramas are done. I just finished Innocent Man, I have mixed feelings about it that I will post soon for my review. And yes I agree at the part that Si-yeon has only one angry face… I don’t know but Five Fingers is just far better than Innocent Man… My Kang Ma-Ru was great but the story I’ve been there a lot of times, the only novelty was Kang Ma Ru who was given the ability to hold both the yin and yang torches to rescue the people around him. About Min Ho’s kissing skills, yeah I know it sucks, when I visit him this spring… I’ll teach him a lot of things… *giggles

I’m busy watching the drama pendings… will catch up with you soon… ^_^

  34. Think im going to cry…….. just watched the end of Innocent Man, wow, i kind of hoped there would be a happy ending, but didn’t expect that, talk about flipping the coin or the shoe being on the other foot, great ending, think it could have had another 1 or 2 episodes to round it out nicely but hey, it was great either way, i think this is probably ending up as my second favorite below faith for this year.

Id love to see what you guys and gals think

    Mr Ð

    • havent started with it yet rich, will do that on monday because tomorrow will be lee min ho’s mall tour here..

      beaming, abby

  35. well, after watching a whole 28 eps + 1 special in just over 3 days (brilliant legacy), i have come to a decision. It will probably come as no surprise, but, I think Moon Chae-won is probably the most beautiful asian actress i have ever seen, i have noticed her in a number of dramas, more so of late due to her main role in innocent man, i have also seen her in Brilliant legacy (shining inheritance) painter of the winds, princess’ man & its ok, daddy’s girl. The special ep for BL is a tv talk show i believe, really funny, you see a different side of the actors/actress, i almost felt sorry for her with some of the questions.

If she ever needs some where to stay in the UK, ill be first inline ♥

    *in aw* Mr Ð

PS The special is a tv show normally called Ya shim Man Man, has stars from k pop and film/drama on it, i think some of the people here might enjoy it.

  36. your going to have a year end reviews of the drama? wow, looking forward to it, i love year end reviews so much, making up for the dramas that i didn’t watch this year.:)

    • yes lara, i will im just waiting for the last quarter drama to end so I can finally seal it… take care… what have you been watching? ^_^

FINISHED!! watched all eps in about 26hrs overall, lol, can you tell i had nothing else to do, but in all honesty i dont think i could stop watching if i had tried.

Beautifully presented, amazing acting (from young and older versions of the actors/actress)
        Great storyline,

        **************Spoiler below************

Im so glad that the brother hadn’t turned against him, i had about 20% doubt that he would actually be bad, but was great to see he still had enough love and compassion to do the right thing, i only wish that it had ran for the original 24 eps rather than the shortened 20.

        🙂 Mr Ð ♥♥

  40. Well i just finished watching Arrang & the Magistrate, liked the ending alot, so cute =), Abby, can you watch the last 20 seconds of part 5 from this link at tell me what drama its advertising please

  41. A really really really awesome on is Queen SeonDeok

  42. i’m finished watching it, and, nope it wasn’t that good, it’s too dramatic for me, i just love the dresses of the lead star, Park Yeh-Jin of My Princess, and, next time i’m going to watch Royal Family.:)

  43. i’m going to try your recommendations of korean drama’s but as of the moment i’m watching Hateful but Once Again, some other time i think, and thanks for the review of The Princess Man, it is the best drama of 2011 for me, it’s just a pity it didn’t win in Baeksang Art Awards, but anyway, i love Moon Chae-Won and Park Si-Hoo, and i’m excited for unni’s new drama with Joong-Ki oppa.:)

    • tell me if hateful but once again is nice… i have a dvd somewhere but i haven’t had d chance to watch it… have lots of pending dramas to watch… yes princess man was really nice…

  44. Marneh, thnx for he update, maybe i could get a go at being her mr right =) also found this

Time Slip Dr. Jin (MBC, 2012)
    Man of Honor (KBS, 2011)
    City Hunter (SBS, 2011)
    Sungkyunkwan Scandal (KBS2, 2010)

Kind of explains why i thought she was familiar ( the top 3 i watched in the last month and have also seen skk scandal too )

Thanks Miss Princess, also, just as an advanced warning, my computer is being funny, think i might have to format everything and start from a fresh install, so if i vanish for a week or 2 its because of that, im probably going to upgrade at the same time.

        See you soon, Mr Ð

  45. hello chinggus.. 😀 Hi jediprincess t’s me again .. 🙂 park min young and Lee min Ho confirmed they are off already.. *winks

  46. Dimas, ive not seen it, but ill add it to my list, i just finished man of honor and city hunter, man of honor was really good, couldnt stop watching it, good character development throughout and the end was good too, would have liked a closing scene of ” a few years later” but it was over all much better than i thought it would be.

City hunter, hmmmmm, to e honest i didnt really have any reason to watch this other than it being a popular drama from last year, but, after watching it (20 ep in 40 days ) i have to say im glad i decided to, the lead actress is great, dont know her name but i have seen her in many drama, including the above, also the main male lead played his part really well, think he was in boys over flowers, the only thing i found missing in this was the feeling of really disliking any particular character, normally the evil mastermind is hated, but with so many in it i found it hard to feel any kind of true bad feelings for any one of them, definitely well worth watching, but not in my top 10.

    =) Mr Ð

    • hi rich, that was well said for city hunter, actually it kinda have the same make of king2earts, polished and calculated and gripping… man of honor is on my bucket list if you have enjoyed it, i should it try it soon… the lead girl in city hunter is park min young, she was also in sungkyunkwan scandal, that’s were i first liked her… after city hunter they became real life couple, i don’t know if until now they are still together..

  47. personally, I like “I Am Sam” (2007). Have you watched it?

  48. I also noticed u have an awful lot of “in progress” dramas, if you want any help reviewing, let me know, i can post my feedback until you have finished watching

    Watching :
    -City Hunter
    -Dr Jin
    -A Gentleman’s dignity
    -I Do I Do
    -Bridal Mask

    Recently finished:
    -Man Of Honor
    -Tree with deep roots
    -Princess man
    -Rooftop Prince
    -Queen inhyuns man
    -Love Rain
    -King to Hearts

Its raining outside, but the suns shining inside me
    Mr Ð

    • hi rich, hahaha i know i’m behind sooo much blame the Hangul lessons… i’m done with city hunter though, i got the first 2 cds for the currently airing dramas but i’ll watch it on my weeklong vacation on the fourth week of this month so by then I will be stoic when asked about new dramas airing… I’d appreciate it if you’ll give me your feedback about Man of Honor, I haven’t started on it yet… thank you. ^_^

  49. Miss Princess, can you compile me a list of joseon era dramas/films please, ive seen a few recently and im beginning to like them quite alot, ive seen hwang jin yi, seuk scandal, queen inhyuns man, RTP, and tree with deep roots, any other must see’s you would recommend?

    Many thanks Mr Ð

    • i also just recently joined sageuk viewing, from what I’ve seen so far I liked all the dramas you mentioned except Hwang Jin Yi, I haven’t seen it yet. I also liked Princess’ Man, Dong Yi (it is long but it has a secret thread that will make you finish it), and Dae Jang Geum. Jumong, Kingdom of the Winds and The Legend are on my bucket list.

  50. My first Korean drama was I’m sorry I love you…. if you haven’t watched that one yet… it is highly recommended

    • hi there, i have super intentions of watchin it because of the raves and so ji sub oppa, but i ave to delay it because of time, have the copy somewhere. thanks for reminding me… Take care.

  51. I did really enjoy Beethoven virus, a very good cast, well written and acted, especially grandpa, i love the actor who plays him, i would have liked a successful romance story tho, every one kind of ends up lonely

  52. Im almost finished with Queen Inhyuns man, waiting for last few eps, im watching Beethoven virus too, seems pritty good

    • Beethoven’s virus was brilliantly conceived Rich… It’s where I first saw jang geun Seok in a different light… I love Boong-do. I’m praying he’ll time travel and meet me in this lifetime… *giggles

  53. Hey abby, ive just finished “a tree with deep roots” was a good drama, not sure i liked the ending, although its a change from the normal style, i would appreciate any recommendations of dramas to watch, or some ones to look out for in the future please, i hope you are well and your studies are going well too.

    Forever a fan, Richard

    • hi rich,

just got from first day in Hangul, felt like Math.. but it’s good to feel school again.. From the ones who recently concluded, I liked rooftop prince and king2hearts.. love rain is nice but mostly girls can relate to it.. I’m currently liking queen in hyun’s man, witty and upbeat.. haven’t checked the new dramas which recently premiered so I can’t comment yet.. take care.. ^_^

      beaming, abby

  54. Well, well , well, i never saw that coming, just watched the end of “rooftop Prince”, i can actually say that im sad its over, has an almost perfect balance of emotion throughout, whether it be the funny moment of “the 3”, the romance between the lead couple of Yong Tae Yong & Park Ha(whether they knew it or not at that point) or the bitterness of what the sister Hong Se Na and Yong Tae Moo were trying to do. It also had those amazing moments when you find yourself talking/shouting at your screen telling the b!tch to back off =)

A great drama throughout on a miss princess rating system i give it 9/9.5/9.5

I also just watched the end of King 2 Hearts, all im going to say is the last episodes really messed up what i thought was going to happen but still a fitting end, being able to watch as Hang Ah & Jae Ha’s relationship build through out all the obvious pressure against it was great, also seeing Jae Ha develop and mature throughout the series was great to watch, from a sniveling child like man to an all powerful king, oh and if you want a perfect insane villain, look no further than the actor Yoon Je Moon, he is also in a tree with deep roots, plays the evil guy amazingly well, Amazing drama, time well worth spending to watch =)

Probably going to end up being my favorite drama of 2012 10/10/10

  55. try QUEEN SEON DEUK…….

    • hi there, it’s already on my bucket list… I’ve seen some parts of it, it was just recently that I have developed liking towards period dramas so I still to watch the rest that I haven’t seen. I will watch it soon. Thank you for reminding me. ^_^ Take care

I will look up love rain firstly and then maybe look at the other 2 suggestions, but king 2 hearts will definitely be first inline, i have always liked ha ji won as an actress, first saw her in secret garden then went looking for all the films/dramas i could find, thats how i found “hwang jini”

P.S thnx for accepting me on fb (lol, a real life, virtual shop!!!!)

      • on that note, i might have to find time watching hwang jinyi… i’m not reallya fan of sageuk except if they put on some quirkiness and tweaks… Ha Ji Won noona lives up to her A-list status.

Hwang jinyi is in my personal opinion her best performance to date, she has to deal with an emotional roller-coaster for her characters role and she does this seamlessly, although her acting in Secret garden & what happened in bali was good, i feel the maturity of her character in Hwang jinyi gave her the chance to really shine, hope you do find time to watch it, you definitely wont be disappointed

(seems she is also playing a rather strong willed character in King 2 Hearts, just watched ep3)

  61. hi jediprincess! Brain is really really good! i

have you seen Cain and Abel? that’s a really good medical drama, some great twists and turns in it, and the character building is amazing, i managed to develop absolute hatred for at least 3 people whilst watching it as well as sympathy and a sense of loss for others. highly recommend it.

P.S, sorry for the uber post below

Are you on twitter?? Do you happen to be on MDL (as in also?? I watched My Girlfriend is an Agent yesterday, It’s really funny. I don’t think there’s anyone that could have done a better job than Kang Ji Hwan. 🙂

        Have a great week!!!

      • yes I have twitter, but I used it mainly when I need a shrink… I’m not on mdl.. I’m going to check that website now because I’m not familiar with it…

  63. I just tried to add you on fb and cant seem to find you either McDudeth Man is me if u can please tey again, I also think the mini clue in ep 19 isnt needed on 49days, kinda harsh ending, but i suppose its good to have an ending thats not the norm, i watched My Girl on your recommendation, thought it was great, when she does her confession i was absolutely gob smacked, it all seemed to make sense, great ending =)

  64. Ive just finished watching Coffee House, i have to be honest and say that its nicely written and as im finding in a great number of korean dramas, the villain is played very well, to the point where im shouting at the tv for the guy to just F*CK OFF =) i got very engrossed but felt a slight dissatisfaction at the end.

Im on EP19/20 for 49days, initially i avoided this drama, im not sure why but i did, anyhow, its great, really got my emotionally involved and pulled my heart strings all over the place, recommend all to watch it ( watching end of EP 19 now)

    • This is a spoiler. There’s a tiny series ending detail in 49 days that I think was unnecessary… As for coffee house still finding time to fully watch it… I’m still watching padam, recapping wild romance is taking much time… I can’t see you at facebook… I was meaning to add you… can you add me instead? Take care.

  65. wow, just watched the finale of padam padam, in one way im kinda glad at how it ended but in another way im upset that there wasn’t a true conclusion for any of the characters story lines =(

Also i know its not the Korean version but ive just watched season 1-2 of Hana Yori Dango (think that’s how you spell it) Japanese predating version of boys over flowers, i have to say that i prefer this version when compared to the Korean version just because its a little more serious and less slapstick comedy.

I have also watched coffee prince ( nice easy going story) has some heart tugging moments and relatively easy to pick up where you left off, nice way to pass the time

I will definitely look up hong kong sisters

    • I’ll give my comment on padam when I do my series review this week.. there are four versions of hana yori dango, they all have their strongest points, but I prefer the Taiwanese version, because that’s the first I saw, but the girl in the Japanese version closely fit the lead girl’s character.

yes coffee prince is feel good and breezy.. I think you will like city hall..

Hong sisters are good in romcom and creating the sweetest scenes ever in kdrama land.

      happy watching mr. d.

  66. ohh how i love korean dramas too!(= Thumbs up for your list. i love all of them!(=
Take care of us captain, Wild romance, Dream high 2 and Skip beat must be there too though it’s currently airing. 😉 great blog!HYPED!<3

    • I’m finishing Brain, padam, what’s up and hooray for season openers.. haven’t updated the list yet for 2012 dramas, im liking moon and wild romance in the currently airing dramas, I’ll watch captain after the series is done I guess…

      take care!

  67. I just watched My GF is a Gumiho and im going to admit i was happily surprised, i had watched episode 1 a few weeks ago and thought it was going to be a very childish “slap stick” rom com, so i avoided it, i decided to give it a second go yesterday and watched it right through from ep1-16 and found that once the first few episodes were out of the way i couldn’t help but just keep watching, had its funny moments, moments when i just wished certain characters would stop interfering and then the heartfelt moments where i couldn’t believe what was either happening or i thought would happen, great drama, will probably watch again =)

    • hi mr d,

gumiho is tricky, but it’s really one fun watch and d supernatural twist didn’t diminish its beauty.. d writers, Hong sisters, are my favorite kdrama writers.. check their other works, it wont fail you.

  68. Miss Jediprincess i need your help quite drastically, ive watched padam padam almost solidly from ep1-16 and i am now at a stall point, ive looked all over the net and found that ep17 is being aired tonight in korea, i need an english sub version ASAP before i go crazy P.L.E.A.S.E can u help me find one as soon as its been on in korea pls pls pls before i go crazy!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    My life depends on it
    Mr Ð

    • Hi Mr. D, I’m sorry I won’t be able to help you with this… Someone downloads the dramas for me and he just gives it to me at work… I normally check new eps at or…

I just odn’t know if they have updated it yet…

No problem at all, ive found ep 17-18 but im not waiting for the 2 final ep’s, ill let you know how it goes, its shaping up very well, ive also just watched playful kiss aka (Mischievous Kiss ) i agree with what you said about it lacking something, it has its funny moments and i especialy like the “1 liners” that relate to there past meetings or quarrels, the younger brother is also a good character but i think a mother like there’s would drive me nuts.
Good story, just missing that heart aching moment that makes you really connect.

      • i saw the taiwan and japan version of mischievous kiss, i prefer the taiwan version, if you have time you can check it… the korean adaptation was i think based on the taiwan adaptation… that’s the drama that took me out of heartbreak depression… hahaha

Ive just finished watching Heartstrings & Personal Taste (personal preference),

Heartstrings is a must watch for anyone whom can relate to a love hate born relationship combined with outside interference with good intention, often having the opposite affect, but it also goes to show how badly things can go if you do not share your true feelings with those you care about.

Personal Taste was charming at times and i also feel that the actress who played InHe is great, she really made the role of the jealous friend whom gets what she wants, really come to life. But the bigges thing i learned whilst watching this is simply, show your true intentions from the beginning as if you dont you may harm those who become most important to you.

I would and will recommend both of these to my friends

        Mr Ð

      • Hi Mr. D

        Heartstrings is HighSchool reminiscent…

Do you have facebook? Maybe we can be friends there… that’s my email addy there…

  69. Jus had a random thought at 4:15AM =) if any1 wants to add me on facebook please do, id like to be able to discuss movies and dramas with people, if you know any good facebook groups pls tell me

  70. Ive finished watching “alone in love” is was a nice drama, although the ending was a little harsh from some respects, I then tried to watch “boys over flowers” but within the first 10 minutes i was feeling like i wanted to kill half the characters so i had to stop watching it =)

Im now watching “padam padam” looks good so far

  71. Yeah i saw the ending and it makes me think about telling people things more clearly as you never know how your judgement and decisions will affect what happens to you and others in the future

I’m watching “Alone in love” now, its quite good so far and i love the little daughter, her character is cool =)

  72. WOW!! Just watched “what happened in Bali” nice drama, kept me guessing all the way on who she would end up with and the ending, Oh my word…………….I’m a big fan of happily ever after type drama’s, i’d recommend for everyone to watch, well worth spending some time.

If u wanna know who she picks, watch it and find out

    • HI Mr. D,

what happened in Bali has a classic ending… I assure you that… ^_^

  73. Hwang Jin Yi

Ive just spent a day and a bit watching Hwang Jin yi (think thats how its spelt)
its a captivating story with Ha Ji won playing the lead role superbly displaying her ability to act a huge variety of personality types from the seductive temptres to the Over confident cold intellectual, all the way to the fragile emotional victim, i have to say that im glad i watched it and i hope to see miss Ha Ji Won in future dramas.
Definitely worth watching (maybe im too sensitive, but) i was crying all over the place on a number of occasions

Well im going to randomly choose one from the list you provided and see how it goes, ill let you know

    Mr Ð

  74. Love the ending

  75. I have just spent the last 2 days of my life doing nothing more than watching the Secret Garden series, Im on episode 18 at the moment and i just burst out in to uncontrollable tears, A truly amazing adaptation of a Cinderella love story with a twist or 2, i cant believe it took so long for him to tell her he loved her, ☺☺☺ Everyone has to see this drama.

Ill add another comment once ive watched the last few episodes, i definitely agree with 10/10/10

    • PS ive been awake for almost 36 hours solid watching this ☺☺☺

  78. It must be because of my movie preference that you mistook me for a girl. lol

  79. I thought you are a girl… so I assume your name is roel… i’m not really into Thai films, a friend sort of asked me to watch it, but given my korean movie bucket list i’ll try to check for some other nice watch, have the copy of Bangko Traffic, haven’t seen it yet though… i’ll add u on facebook then… ^_^

  80. yep, after the guy mentioned his real name on the radio..then for sure the girl will find him..then they will live happily ever after,,hahaha. at least that’s how I imagine the story will end:)..

  82. Hi chuck, yes I’m from Manila, Phils… and no I haven’t visited Korea yet, but I can go somewhere here in Manila where I can pretend I’m in “Little Korea”… *giggles I also like OST’s and mostly of the dramas and movies as well… I still am confident I’m not an addict… *giggles I just like watching feel good videos maybe… By the way if you have skype or facebook hope we can catch each other some time there… Annyeong!

    • Chuck?? whos that? lol. So you are from the Philippines.. Well, i just want to say hello kabayan,, hehehe..Im from Cebu, but currently working here in no korean dramas at the moment 😦 . My last k-dramas i’ve watched was during my vacation there last July…..Secret Garden, Dream High, Coffee House, Playful Kiss, (also some unfinished drama due to time constraints: Lie To Me, Best Love and Personal Taste).. Anyway, have you seen the movie Hello Stranger already? Its my 1st time watching a Thai romantic film and omo.. Its so romantic.. The latest film that I just cant get over with. 😀

Hope to be friends with you on facebook.

  83. Are you from the Philippines? Anyways, i like your reviews and also helped me a lot on what to watch next 🙂 I thought im already an addict about k-drama but boy.. you are a mega addict.. Im also crazy about Korean OST that amost all of my music libraries are Korean..from movies (earliest: My Sassy Girl) to Drama (latest: Dream High).. I imagine you to be like the girl in the movie Hello Stranger and wouldn’t be surprised if you have taken a tour to Korea by yourself already. Annyeong ^^;

  84. *giggles if I have more than 24 hours of time I would have watched even more I guess but I still have to work… It’s just really a hobby I’m much of a bum I guess so when it’s off at work I enjoy little beauties of life like watching dramas and movies… take care.. ^_^

  85. Wow truly you are a dedicated Korean addict. You must not be doing anything to have watch all this k dramas (hahaha, joke). Im envious 😀
